Department of Italian Language, Literature and Arts Worldwide

In line with the historical mission of the Università per Stranieri di Perugia as an ambassador of Italian language and culture worldwide, the Department of Italian Language, Literature, and Arts in the World, established on January 1, 2022, has as its main mission the study, promotion, and dissemination of Italy’s rich cultural heritage. This includes the national language and its varieties, literature, the arts, music, theatre, cinema, and audiovisual media, in close synergy with the region and with national and international institutions pursuing similar objectives.

The Department fosters processes of internationalization and communication to promote intercultural dialogue aimed at spreading the Italian language and culture; it encourages national and international collaborations and synergies to lead innovation in teaching and research.

The humanities are consistently explored with particular attention to Heritage (art, cinema, literature) and Made in Italy, offering both a broad and diachronic perspective on Italian culture, further enriched by the study of European and non-European languages and literatures.

The Italian language and culture courses – the cornerstone of the Università per Stranieri di Perugia since their inception in 1921 – offer a wide range of educational opportunities for international students, for those enrolled in degree programs at Italian and international universities, and for all enthusiasts of the Italian language and culture. These courses draw on advanced methods of teaching and learning.

As the home of major international research projects, the Department serves as a hub connecting to the many places worldwide where knowledge of Italy’s precious cultural heritage is promoted.
