Artificial Intelligence at the University for Foreigners of Perugia

The University for Foreigners of Perugia uses artificial intelligence systems to support certain institutional, administrative, teaching, and informational activities.

The University adopts these technologies in line with the principles of transparency, accountability, security, personal data protection, and human oversight, in compliance with applicable European and national regulations, with particular reference to Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (AI Act) and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).

Artificial intelligence systems are used for specific purposes and in ways proportional to the activities carried out. Where artificial intelligence supports administrative processes, responsibility for activities and decisions remains with the relevant University staff.

For artificial intelligence services involving data processing via external APIs, the University implements Zero Data Retention (ZDR) configurations. This approach is intended to prevent the retention of content transmitted to the service provider beyond what is necessary for the requested processing, in accordance with the technical and contractual specifications applicable to the service used.

The University maintains a catalogue of its main artificial intelligence systems and services, outlining their purposes, operation, the role of artificial intelligence, and key safeguards.
