Training and Professional Development Course for European Mediators in Intercultural Dialogue and Social Cohesion

Mode of delivery: in person.
The classes will be held at the headquarters of the Comunità di Sant'Egidio ACAP APS in Rome, Via San Gallicano 25.
The internship will take place at the operational offices of the Comunità di Sant'Egidio ACAP APS.

Intercultural mediation is a tool for promoting the integration of foreign citizens in the community and enhancing diversity, as recognized by Legislative Decree No. 286/1998, particularly articles 38 and 42. Today, the professional role of the intercultural mediator is required in various fields, including, for example: education and training; cultural inclusion; civic participation; healthcare; justice and correctional services; access to social services and public administration; administrative procedures relating to immigration, citizenship, and asylum; and the use of universal public services.

Admission to the programme requires:

1. an upper secondary school diploma obtained in Italy or abroad
2. language proficiency of at least B1 level (for non-Italian citizens only) and cultural suitability (for all applicants)

   PLEASE NOTE! To complete the application you will need:
   1. information about your upper secondary school diploma, which must be provided in the “QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION” section;
   2. the following documents to be uploaded in the “MANAGE QUALIFICATIONS AND DOCUMENTS FOR ASSESSMENT” section (in PDF, JPG, or PNG format):
   - a valid identification document
   - documentation of your secondary school diploma if obtained abroad
   - a residence permit for Italy if you are a citizen of a country outside the European Union other than Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, San Marino, and the Vatican City and you are resident or domiciled in Italy.
3. Take the language and cultural suitability interview
   The selection will be carried out by the Comunità di S. Egidio ACAP APS, at their premises in Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, n.23 (Rome) on the following three days: 
   - Thursday, 26 November 2026, from 17:00 to 20:00
   - Sunday, 29 November 2026, from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00
   - Thursday, 3 December, from 17:00 to 20:00
   When completing your application, you must indicate on which date you wish to take the interview.
4. Check admission results for the course: the list of admitted candidates will be published on this page starting from 16 December 2026. Each candidate may also view their application results in their reserved area on Esse3WEB.
5. Complete your enrollment and pay the course registration fee (euro 200.00) by 11 January 2027 by logging into your personal area in Esse3WEB.

The programme consists of:

• 320 hours of classroom teaching, structured into 13 modules covering applied social sciences, legal and economic subjects, and historical-political topics.
  Lessons will be held in person at the Comunità di Sant’Egidio ACAP APS site (Via San Gallicano, n. 25/A – Rome).
• 180 hours of internship.

What does the internship involve?

The internship is carried out at the operational sites of the Comunità di S. Egidio ACAP APS and may include the following types of activities:

1. Reception and mediation at soup kitchens and listening centers; medical hub
2. Outreach activities for people experiencing homelessness
3. Assistance and guidance on administrative procedures related to immigration, residence, social security, and healthcare
4. Cultural mediation activities in family and school relationships and in neighborhood relations, with particular attention to families with a migration background and elderly people

Is attendance mandatory?

Attendance is compulsory for at least 70% of classroom activities and 70% of internship activities.

Are there assessments?

At the end of the programme, there will be a written exam covering the topics addressed in the 13 modules.
At the end of the internship, students must submit a report on the activities carried out, which will be discussed during a final interview.

Teaching activities will take place from 28 January to 7 November 2027.

Classes will be held on Sunday mornings and Thursday afternoons at the following times:

• Sunday, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
• Thursday, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Upon completion of the course, the University for Foreigners of Perugia will issue the following certifications to participants:

• Certificate of completion with the award of 40 ECTS credits for enrolled students who have met the attendance requirement and passed the assessments
• Certificate of attendance without the award of ECTS credits for participants admitted without the required entry qualification
