Living in Perugia

view of Perugia

Perugia is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in Italy for its artistic, cultural, and historical tradition.

It is located in central Italy: both Florence and Rome are about two hours away by train.

In the geographical heart of the country, Perugia still preserves intact traces of its past: Piazza IV Novembre, the Palazzo dei Priori, the Fontana Maggiore, the Etruscan and medieval walls, the ancient gateways to the city, the remains of the majestic Rocca Paolina, and the Temple of Sant’Angelo.

The city has museums of international significance: the Archaeological Museum, with sections dedicated to prehistory, Roman and Etruscan eras, the Museo Capitolare, and the National Gallery of Umbria, rich in treasures of medieval and Renaissance painting and sculpture.
In Perugia, in addition to the two universities, are the Pietro Vannucci Academy of Fine Arts, the Francesco Morlacchi Music Conservatory, and the Augusta Municipal Library, which holds particularly valuable manuscripts and ancient volumes.

The city is also the stage for a vibrant and innovative cultural present: Umbria Jazz, the International Journalism Festival, the Umbrian Music Festival, Eurochocolate, Umbria Music Fest, Umbria Wine Festival, and Umbria Libri are internationally renowned events.

The Umbrian capital, finally, is part of a region dotted with small urban gems known throughout the world: Assisi, Gubbio, Orvieto, Todi, Spello, Bevagna, and Corciano are unmissable stops on a tourist and cultural itinerary of rare beauty.
