Master’s Degree in International Relations and Development Cooperation (RICS)

• develop specialized expertise in contemporary international relations, the arenas and actors of global governance, major geopolitical issues, the spread of democratization processes, the institutions of emerging countries, international institutions' cooperation policies, economic development policies, and dynamics of international journalism
• possess specific skills regarding the functioning of international economic institutions, issues of debt and sustainable growth, bilateral, multilateral, decentralized, and non-governmental cooperation policies, relations among emerging countries, processes of regionalization and decentralization, techniques for conflict transformation and regulation, political doctrines of global development, and the role of the media and international public opinion
• develop interdisciplinary knowledge and acquire methodological tools relevant to designing, coordinating, and implementing international cooperation initiatives in the fields of economic development, institutional consolidation, environmental sustainability, and human rights protection
• achieve a high level of proficiency in at least two foreign languages

Graduates find employment in organizations, national and international public and private bodies, economic enterprises and non-profit organizations operating in Italy and abroad, which, in various ways, engage with the international context and developing countries.

Graduates may also hold positions of responsibility and leadership within organizations representing collective interests (political parties, employers’ and workers’ unions, associations for the protection of the environment and human rights), as well as in national or supranational associations with humanitarian, cultural, or scientific purposes.

The Master's Degree program provides training for the following professional profiles:

• ambassador, executive or officer within the diplomatic service
• project manager, consultant, or operator in the field of development cooperation
• internationalization manager for small and medium-sized enterprises
• specialist in humanitarian emergency programs
• manager in communication, public relations, research and development departments
• junior officer in intergovernmental and non-governmental international organizations
• internal and external communications manager in multinational companies and international groups
• public relations specialist
• political science specialist and international analyst
• expert in institutional communication
• manager in national and international environmental protection agencies
• specialist in cooperation and environmental projects
• disaster manager, environmental risk manager
• consultant in environmental economics and policy in public and private institutions

*The 9 ECTS for language courses include 3 ECTS delivered by a native speaker (CEL/Lettore).
** Elective learning activities are independently chosen by the student among equivalent-level degree courses.

To be admitted to the Master's Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or a three-year university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable. In addition, to enroll in this programme, students must:

• meet the required curricular prerequisites
• pass an entrance interview. Candidates may attend the entrance interview only if they meet the curricular requirements.

Curricular requirements

In order to enroll in the programme, students must possess preliminary academic knowledge amounting to a total of 51 ECTS credits (CFU) in the following subject areas:

Any additional credits earned beyond the 180 ECTS required for the three-year bachelor’s degree, provided that they relate to the above subject areas and academic disciplines, may be counted toward these requirements. Likewise, relevant language certifications and internship experiences, if not already counted toward the bachelor's degree, may also be included, provided they pertain to the above subject areas and academic disciplines.

Any additional ECTS credits required to fulfill the curricular prerequisites must be obtained prior to enrollment in the Master's Degree Programme and before the assessment of individual qualifications. Such credits may be earned at any university, in the form of "single course enrollments" in first-cycle degree programmes.

The possession of the curricular requirements will be verified by the Degree Programmes and Teaching Secretariat. Students may submit their supporting documentation by email to segreteria.laurea@unistrapg.it or deliver it in person to the Secretariat (Palazzina Orvieto, Viale C. Manuali, 9 - 06123 Perugia).

For the verification of curricular requirements, students must present the following documentation:

• a copy of the degree certificate (for graduates), including a transcript of records showing the exams taken, the relevant ECTS credits earned, and the associated academic disciplines (SSD)
• a copy of the transcript of exams taken and those still to be completed (for graduating students), with an indication of acquired and remaining ECTS credits and the respective academic disciplines (SSD).
