course overview

The Master’s Degree Programme in Advertising, Storytelling and Image Culture, offered by the Department of International Human and Social Sciences, trains specialists in strategic management within the field of communication, able to enhance both the internal and external image of institutions and enterprises. Alongside a solid theoretical understanding of strategic communication, graduates in advertising communication acquire advanced skills in designing and developing communication plans, including at the international level, thanks to fluency in multiple foreign languages.

Course Information

  • develop in-depth knowledge in linguistic-semiotic and sociological fields, instrumental for managing communication techniques, with particular focus on the drafting of advertising texts
  • acquire skills in the conception and production of audiovisual and digital products in the fields of advertising and corporate communication
  • develop specific expertise in the design and development of communication plans
  • develop theoretical and technical knowledge of various communication media
  • acquire psychosocial, qualitative, and quantitative analysis tools for monitoring and evaluating communication products
  • achieve proficiency in two European Union languages and their relevant communication-related professional terminologies
  • develop skills in promoting, managing, and using information and communication technologies

Graduates will be qualified to hold positions of responsibility in communications within public, private, and non-profit organizations, both in Italy and internationally. Professional opportunities include communication and advertising agencies, press and public relations offices, publishing and multimedia companies, media centers, and television and film production companies. Additional relevant sectors include newsrooms for radio, television, and online outlets, as well as newspapers, magazines, and news agencies.

The degree program defines specific professional profiles:

  • art director, copywriter, account manager, media planner
  • communications and marketing manager
  • designer of audiovisual and multimedia products
  • press officer
  • webmaster, web designer, web content manager
  • news management operator and executive, media relations strategist

The Master’s Degree in Advertising Communication, Storytelling and Corporate Culture (degree class LM92 – Communication Theory) is a qualifying degree for access to the new teaching competition class: A-65 Theory and Technique of Communication. This subject may be taught in the final two years of Technical Institutes, Technological sector, Graphics and Communication track.

In order to be eligible for this teaching competition class, second-year students must include the Sociology of International Journalism exam taught by Prof. Rolando Marini (SPS/08), part of the RICS Master’s Degree program, in their study plan.

*The 9 ECTS envisaged for foreign language courses include 3 ECTS delivered by a native-speaking language expert (CEL/Lettore madre lingua).
** Elective learning activities are chosen independently by the student from among all equivalent-level degrees offered by the University. The programme also recommends the options listed above, as they are considered consistent with the content and learning objectives of the degree.

Students can check their study plans to see which courses are compulsory, optional, or elective.

To enroll in the Master’s degree programme in Advertising Communication, Storytelling and Visual Culture, students must hold a Bachelor’s degree or three-year university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and deemed equivalent. Additionally, students must:

  • meet the required curricular prerequisites
  • undergo an entrance interview. The candidate may attend the interview only if the curricular requirements have been met.

Admission to the Master’s degree programme in Advertising Communication, Storytelling and Visual Culture is subject to holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in one of the following subject areas: L5, L-10, L-11, L12, L-15, L-18, L-24, L-33, L-36, L-37, L-39, L-40, L-20, L-GASTR, or possessing curricular requirements amounting to a total of 60 ECTS credits in the following Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors (SSD):

Additional surplus credits beyond the 180 prescribed for the Bachelor’s degree programme may be counted if they were obtained in subjects relevant to the specified areas and sectors. Similarly, relevant language and/or IT certifications and/or internship experiences may be included if they have not already been counted towards the Bachelor’s degree.

Any additional ECTS credits required to meet the curricular prerequisites must be obtained before enrolling in the Master’s degree programme and before the individual assessment, and may be earned at any university as “single course units” within first cycle degree programmes.

The possession of curricular requirements will be verified by the Degree Programmes and Teaching Office, to which students may submit their documentation by email at segreteria.laurea@unistrapg.it or deliver it in person at the office (Palazzina Orvieto, Viale C. Manuali, 9 - 06123 Perugia).

For the verification of curricular requirements, students must present:

  • a copy of the degree certificate (for graduates), including a transcript of examinations taken, with the corresponding number of credits earned and related scientific-disciplinary sectors
  • a copy of the transcript of examinations completed and those to be completed (for graduands), indicating the credits already acquired and those still to be earned, along with the relevant scientific-disciplinary sectors.
