"From knowledge ... to know-how"
The new Guidelines issued by the MIUR, drawn up in accordance with the provisions of Law no. 145 of 30 December 2018, have renamed and restructured the “Alternanza scuola lavoro” programmes (Legislative Decree no. 77 of 15 April 2005) as the “Pathways for Transversal Skills and Career Guidance” – PCTO.
Through practical experience, PCTO allow upper secondary school students to consolidate and enrich the knowledge they have already acquired, test their personal aptitudes in real-world settings, and further support their individual development and orientation when choosing their future academic path.
According to current regulations, PCTO remains a mandatory experience with the following minimum durations:
- 210 hours during the final three years of professional institutes
- 150 hours during the second two-year period and the final year of technical institutes
- 90 hours during the second two-year period and the fifth year of high schools (licei)
The Università per Stranieri di Perugia continues to take part in the implementation of these pathways with an orientation purpose, providing for the activities, as planned and defined in each individual training plan, to be carried out within its own administrative offices and laboratories. These activities are coordinated and supervised by the Orientation Service.

To carry out an internship at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, you must follow the procedures established by current legislation and, in compliance with safety regulations, draw up specific agreements and training projects.
In order to correctly initiate the above internships, subject-specific orientation seminars and training sessions with the staff of the Orientation Service must be organised, either within the Institutes or at the University, as preparation for possible internship periods.
Applications submitted by individual Institutes are evaluated by the Orientation Service according to the availability of University offices and the proposed training activities. For each office, a specific training project is developed and signed both by the Institute’s tutor and by the University tutor (responsible for the relevant University office). Priority for internship placements is given to Schools with whom the University has already established and consolidated collaboration and orientation activities.
