"From knowledge... to practical skills"
The new MIUR Guidelines, drawn up in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 145 of December 30, 2018, have renamed and restructured the “Alternanza scuola lavoro” programmes (Legislative Decree No. 77 of April 15, 2005) as “Pathways for Transversal Skills and Guidance” – PCTO.
Through practical experience, the PCTO enables upper secondary school students to consolidate and expand the knowledge already acquired at school, test their personal aptitudes in real-world settings, and further support their individual development and career orientation for their future educational choices.
According to current regulations, PCTO remains a compulsory experience with the following minimum duration:
- 210 hours during the final three years of vocational institutes
- 150 hours during the second two-year period and the final year of technical institutes
- 90 hours during the second two-year period and the fifth year of high schools (licei)
The Università per Stranieri di Perugia continues to take part in these orientation activities, organizing the scheduled activities—defined in the individual educational plans—within its administrative offices and laboratories. These activities are coordinated and supervised by the Student Guidance Service.

In order to undertake an internship at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, you must follow the procedures established by current legislation, and draw up, in compliance with safety regulations, specific agreements and training projects.
To correctly start the above-mentioned internships, it is necessary to organise, either within the Schools or at the University, thematic orientation seminars and training meetings with the staff of the Guidance Service, aimed at supporting potential internship periods.
Applications submitted by individual Schools are reviewed by the Guidance Service based on the availability of the University offices and the training projects they propose. For each structure, a specific training project is drawn up, signed by both the School tutor and the University tutor (the manager of the relevant University office). Priority for student internship placements is given to those Schools with whom stable collaboration and guidance activities have already been established.
