ITALYOU project fellows involved in the "Mediterranean Bridges" initiative

A group of scholarship recipients from the ITALYOU project – “Italy in Your Future” – and students from the University coming from Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia, took part in the “Mediterranean Bridges” initiative, a public history research workshop promoted by the Institute for Italy-Africa Dialogue (IDIAF) of the Treccani Cultura Foundation, in collaboration with MAECI and the University for Foreigners of Perugia.

The students are participating in both remote and in-person training activities at the Treccani Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome, together with peers from the University of Pisa and Sapienza University of Rome, sharing experiences, knowledge, and diverse perspectives.

The focus of the research is on Italophone communities between Italy and North Africa: a history of cultural exchanges and bonds built also through the Italian language. The program goes beyond mere subject delivery, emphasizing collaborative work on an historical document to produce a segment of a collective podcast.

The goal is not only to learn how to manage an outreach channel, but to do so by starting from original research and through a genuine encounter among different cultures and perspectives.

The initiative, which will conclude at the end of October 2026, is coordinated on behalf of the University by Prof. Sandra Covino, President of the ITAS Master's Degree program—of which the student group is part—with the support of Dr. Alessandro Albanese Ginammi, former academic tutor of the scholarship students, and with the organizational and institutional coordination of the International Relations Service.
