Marco Filardi is a fixed-term type b) (senior) researcher in General Psychology at the Department of Italian Language, Literature and Arts in the World of the University for Foreigners of Perugia since October 2024, after having been a fixed-term type a) (junior) researcher at the Department of Translational Biomedicine and Neuroscience of the University of Bari Aldo Moro (2021-2024), and a postdoc researcher at the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences of the University of Bologna (2016-2021).

His main research areas include the psychophysiology of sleep, chronopsychology, and the relationship between sleep and cognitive functions, both in normal conditions (adolescents and shift workers) and in pathological conditions (primary sleep disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases). Further research areas include cognitive deficits in primary sleep disorders, the neuropsychology of dementia, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with a specific focus on wearable devices.

In 2019 and 2021, he received the AIMS (Italian Academy of Sleep Medicine) Bioprojet Award for the best research on narcolepsy and central hypersomnias. The results of his research led to his inclusion in the “Narcolepsy Virtual Issue” collection of articles by the journal SLEEP (Oxford University Press), recognizing his work as one of the most influential narcolepsy studies published in the 2017-2019 period.

He is Academic Editor for the journal PeerJ and Review Editor for the journals Frontiers in Psychology, Frontiers in Neurology, and Frontiers in Psychiatry. He has also served as a referee for numerous international journals, including Alzheimer's & Dementia, Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, Sleep, Sleep Medicine, Journal of Sleep Research, Neuropsychology, PLOS ONE, European Journal of Neurology, Frontiers in Pediatrics, Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, Chronobiology International, Nature and Science of Sleep, Scientific Reports, International Journal of Psychophysiology, Advances in Therapy, and Cortex.

He is the author of over 70 publications in international peer-reviewed and indexed scientific journals.
