Francesco Asdrubali

Born in Perugia in 1967, graduated in Civil Engineering in 1990, PhD in Thermophysical Properties of Materials in 1995.

Researcher and then Associate Professor of Building Environmental Physics (IIND-07/B, formerly ING-IND/11) at the University of Perugia from 1997 to 2015.

From 2004 to 2013, he served as Director of CIRIAF (Interuniversity Research Center on Pollution and the Environment “Mauro Felli”), administratively based at the University of Perugia, which brings together ten universities and over one hundred faculty members.

From February 2016 to September 2023, he was Full Professor of Building Environmental Physics at the Department of Engineering, Roma Tre University.

Since October 1, 2023, he has been serving at the Department of International Human and Social Sciences (SUSI) of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, where he holds the positions of Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Relations with Local Institutions and Companies, Coordinator of the PhD program “Frontier sciences in sustainability, diplomacy and international cooperation,” and Director of the Master’s program “Urban and Territorial Regeneration and Resilience.”

Scientific coordinator of numerous national (MUR, MIPAAF, INAIL) and European (LIFE, Intelligent Energy Europe, Seventh Framework Programme, Horizon 2020) research projects, he is a Technical Scientific Expert for the MUR and an evaluator of numerous research projects on behalf of the Ministry, various universities, and regional administrations.

With regard to applied research, he has been the scientific coordinator of numerous agreements with major public bodies and companies, including the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies, ISPRA, City of Rome, Umbria Region, ARPA Umbria, Province of Perugia, Municipality of Perugia, Autostrade, Banca d’Italia, Aeroporti di Roma, Ikea Italia, Colosseum Archaeological Park.

He is author of over 400 scientific publications on topics typical of his Scientific Disciplinary Sector, such as building thermophysics, building and environmental acoustics, lighting technology, renewable energy sources, as well as on interdisciplinary subjects such as the circular economy and life cycle analysis, energy geopolitics, energy planning and environmental impact, preservation of historic and artistic heritage, and sustainable mobility.

He serves on the editorial boards of several national and international journals and is Editor in Chief of two international journals (Noise Mapping and Building Acoustics). He has organized numerous national and international conferences.

From 2021 to 2024, he was Director and since 2025 he is Vice President of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibrations (IIAV). From 2021 to 2024, he was President of the Italian Acoustics Association (AIA).

He is listed among the Top Italian Scientists in Engineering and, since 2019, in the annual Stanford University report on the scientific impact of researchers worldwide (top 2% of the most cited scientists).
