Photo exhibition by Raffaele Cherri

As part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the founding of the CVCL, the Center for Language Assessment and Certification at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, the photo exhibition by Raffaele Cherri "Afghanistan. From Another Point of View", featuring shots taken in the city of Herat and its surroundings between 2016 and 2017, will be inaugurated on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The exhibition, specially set up at the Sala Goldoni in Palazzo Gallenga, will be open to visitors until January 30, 2025.
"How many perspectives can we have on things, on people, on ideas? What effect can it have on us to have more than one point of view?
This exhibition is an invitation to discover the world, or simply a situation, from a different perspective, not to linger on your personal vision, but to seek out different vantage points and external perspectives, suspending your own preconceptions, broadening your vision to achieve greater empathy, understanding, and flexibility. Hold on to your own values, beliefs, culture, but make the effort to shift them to see the situation differently.
Afghanistan, Herat and its surroundings, allowed me to represent this concept by looking from two objective viewpoints: an aerial view and a frontal view. The aerial shots were taken from a helicopter while flying over the city of Herat and its province. The frontal perspective is from above a dividing barrier, inaccessible, between Herat’s airport, where I was stationed, and a glimpse of Afghan life unfolding on HIGHWAY1.
It was the desire, curiosity, and need to create contact, even if only visual, with a world so different from mine that was passing by beyond that protective barrier, that made me lean over."
