The developments of the prepositional accusative in neostandard Italian and as a heritage language
The project aims to explore the actual presence of prepositional accusative as differential object marking in Neostandard Italian. The phenomenon, initially considered limited to southern regions, has shown significant expansion over time even in northern areas, especially with particular verb classes. The goal is to examine the acceptability of the prepositional object based on data collected from monolingual native speakers, and then to broaden the scope of the research to include Italian-speaking communities abroad, in diglossic environments. This experimental approach is designed to provide a more accurate view of the expansion of this construction in the Italian language, as well as its possible future linguistic developments.
