The developments of the prepositional accusative in neostandard Italian and as a heritage language
The project aims to explore the actual presence of the prepositional accusative as differential object marking in neostandard Italian. The phenomenon, initially thought to be limited to southern regions, has shown considerable expansion over time even in northern areas, especially with certain verb classes. The objective is to examine the acceptability of the prepositional object based on data collected from monolingual native speakers, then broaden the scope of the research to Italian-speaking communities abroad in diglossic environments. This experimental approach is intended to provide a more accurate picture of the spread of this construction in the Italian language, as well as its possible future linguistic developments.
