The influence of American neoconservatism on Italian foreign policy (1979-1987)
The research project focuses on analyzing Italy’s international posture between 1979 and 1987, suggesting that the neoconservative movement significantly influenced certain policies and ideas of the Italian governments of the 8th and 9th legislatures. Indeed, the world revolving around the Reagan administration—composed of think tanks, religious associations, and government officials—had a profound impact on the Italian political and diplomatic fabric. In light of the archival sources available in both American and Italian archives, public and private, the research aims to contribute to Cold War historiography by analyzing the development of transnational networks within the context of Italian-American relations.
