First Level Master's Degree in "Contemporary Journalism

The programme will enable participants to:

  • critically update their knowledge and skills in journalism within an international context, with particular attention to the European sphere
  • acquire advanced knowledge in the main thematic areas of professional innovation, developing adaptability and resilience
  • strengthen their ability to analyse and interpret issues at the forefront of public debate in contemporary Western societies
  • gain the skills required to address the digital transformation of journalism and its increasing international projection
  • develop expertise in building stable and engaging relationships with various forms of connected audiences, enhancing the role of journalistic mediation
  • diversify professional competencies in relation to the institutional fields and communication environments in which they may be applied

The Master's programme is primarily aimed at professional journalists and contributors, as well as anyone who wishes to enter the profession and feels the need for comprehensive training.

The programme addresses:

  • the professional challenges associated with global transformations and the digital transition
  • the needs of those seeking entry into the profession
  • all those seeking to advance and enhance their current careers

This multidisciplinary pathway aims to meet emerging needs for the acquisition of knowledge and skills driven by the ongoing transformation of the global context and the journalistic profession, supporting the diversification of professional expertise in relation to the institutional settings and communication environments in which media professionals can develop or consolidate their career trajectories.

The award of the first-level master’s degree in “Contemporary Journalism” allows for direct admission to the second year of the Master’s Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation (RICS) at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, provided that the entry requirements for the Master’s Degree Programme are met. Specifically, following the recognition of 42 ECTS credits, master’s participants who meet the requirements and wish to enrol in the Master's Degree Programme must obtain the remaining 78 ECTS credits required for graduation, including those allocated for the dissertation, by passing all outstanding exams, including those from the first year.

Bachelor’s degree or pre-reform degree (prior to Ministerial Decree 509/99).

Module 7 – English for Journalism ANGL-01/C (formerly L-LIN/12)

The national commission of the CNOG (National Council of the Order of Journalists) has awarded the master’s programme 6 professional training credits (CFP), which may be claimed by journalists registered with the Order upon successful completion of the programme.
