Investigating the translinguistic turn of Edith Bruck and Giorgio Pressburger, the project fits into a broader phenomenon of intellectual migration that involved Hungarian authors forced into exile and for whom Italy represented not only a refuge, but also a linguistic and cultural space in which to redefine their identity as writers. The comparison with other Hungarian authors in exile – Sándor Márai, Ágota Kristóf – will highlight the uniqueness of the Italian language and translinguism as tools to reconnect with their own “inner Pannonia.” The aim is to show how adopting Italian as a literary language for Edith Bruck and Giorgio Pressburger was the culmination of an artistic and cultural evolution capable of overcoming a “writing of the limits” typical of exile.
