In keeping with the longstanding tradition of the University for Foreigners of Perugia as an ambassador of the Italian language and culture worldwide, the Department of Italian Language, Literature and Arts in the World, founded on January 1, 2022, has as its main mission the study, promotion, and dissemination of Italy’s rich cultural heritage, consisting of the national language in all its varieties, literature, the arts, music, theatre, cinema, and audiovisual media, in harmony with the region and with national and international institutions pursuing similar aims.
The Department promotes internationalization and communication processes to foster intercultural dialogue aimed at spreading the Italian language and culture; it encourages national and international collaborations and synergies to drive innovation processes in teaching and research.
The humanities are consistently approached with a focus on Heritage (art, cinema, literature) and Made in Italy, offering a broad and diachronic perspective on Italian culture, strengthened by the study of European and non-European languages and literatures.
The Italian language and culture courses—the founding core of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, inaugurated in 1921—offer a wide range of educational opportunities for international students, students enrolled in degree programs at Italian and international universities, and all lovers of the Italian language and culture, employing advanced teaching and learning methodologies.
The Department, home to important international research projects, is the place from which multiple connections radiate to all the locations around the world where the knowledge of Italy’s valuable cultural heritage is promoted.
